Forest School

Our Forest School is a much-loved part of our curriculum, providing rich outdoor learning experiences for our youngest children. Nursery, Reception and Year 1 pupils spend time in our Forest School every week with Mrs Shaw, developing confidence, curiosity and a love of the natural world.

During their sessions, children learn through hands-on exploration and practical activities. They have opportunities to:

  • Explore nature by observing seasonal changes, plants, insects and wildlife
  • Develop independence through child-led activities and decision-making
  • Build resilience and confidence by taking appropriate risks in a safe environment
  • Strengthen physical skills such as climbing, balancing and using tools safely
  • Work collaboratively through team challenges, games and shared tasks
  • Use creativity and imagination to build shelters, create natural artwork and engage in role play
  • Learn about the environment and how to care for it responsibly

Forest School sessions support all areas of learning. Children develop language and communication skills through discussion and storytelling, enhance their problem-solving abilities, and build strong social relationships.

Above all, Forest School encourages children to enjoy being outdoors, fostering a lifelong appreciation of nature and wellbeing.
