Reception Curriculum

Our Reception curriculum builds on the strong foundations established in Nursery and continues to follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE, 2021a). It is designed to give every child the best possible start to their school journey, ensuring they make excellent progress in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Learning in Reception continues to focus on the three prime areas — Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development — while extending into the four specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

Across the Reception year, children deepen their understanding, apply their knowledge in new contexts and become more independent, confident learners. The curriculum is carefully structured from Autumn 1 to Summer 2 to show clear progression and prepare children fully for the transition into Key Stage 1.
